Mrs Umar is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria since 2001, having qualified since 1989. She is a grounded professional who earned her Master’s of Science degree in Corporate Governance from Leeds Metropolitan University, United Kingdom with Merit Award.
She had earlier earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, Second Class Honours Upper Division Prize Winner from the prestigious University of Ibadan, Oyo State and a Grade One West African School Leaving Certificate obtained at Methodist Girls High School, Yaba, Lagos State. She is Oracle Certified in e-business suite, General Ledger and Payroll Modules obtained from Oracle University, USA.
She worked at KPMG and rose to the post of Manager and was in the private sector for several years as Financial Controllerbefore she joined the Lagos State Government in 2002. She was the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry before her appointment as the Lagos State Accountant General .
Her professional contributions to Lagos State include prompt processing of monthly salaries of over 100,000 workers between 2006and 2012, preparation of Lagos State Financial Statements and a member of the team that ensured the implementation of Oracle Financials.
She successfully implemented the State’s Consolidated New Salary Structure with commendation from the Head of Service and was also a Member of e-Governance Policy of the State. She is responsible for the formulation of accounting policy, supervision of accounts of all MDAs in the State, provision of cash backing for the operations of the State in addition to ensuring that Accountants state wide complied with extant rules and regulations.
She is also responsible for the publication of the State’s Audited Financial Statements in line with statue and continuous training of all accountants. Mrs. Umar has attended severalprofessional training, courses retreats and workshop locally and international. She is happily married and with children.
